"A symphony of texture and artful decoration, infused in harmony and delightful celebration” describes the art that Reem Khalil creates to spark smiles everywhere. Born and raised in  Orange County, California, Reem lives her dream as a full-time art professional. She maintains a studio in Laguna Beach, where she has resided most of her life. Prior to building The Refined Bohemian, the company that features her creations, Reem worked as a visual designer for Anthropologie company. Inspired by travels to exotic parts of the world, she applies the skill of silk painting and clothing design using organic fibers, such as bamboo, hemp and silk, to unique, fashion-quality clothing and accessories.

Reem is an award-winning surface designer who exhibits her wears, throughout the West. With more than 20 years of experience and after attending prestigious art schools both locally and abroad, she teaches the art of silk painting. She is actively involved in teaching with the Laguna Outreach for Community Arts, inspiring adults in her community and children in local schools. She is recognized for contributing her art and services to various charities and for her involvement in the marine life refuge where she shares her love and respect for our beaches, another great source of inspiration. Reem’s achievements are particularly remarkable considering a car accident that nearly ended her life at age 17. After learning to walk again, Reem’s philosophy became “live out loud, enjoy life, love, and create.” She is determined to make the most out of what she has been given.

About her work, technique, and style…

Reem creates artistically expressive clothing, otherwise referred to as "wearable art". She uses natural fibers as her medium, and the ancient Japanese technique of Shibori - a style of painting on silk using dyes with different elements, then cuts her own design patterns and sews each distinctive piece into clothing that people wear very comfortably anywhere from the supermarket to an evening gala! You can see more of Reem’s work under her label on www.therefinedbohemian.com, at the Sawdust Festival each summer, and at various boutiques in Laguna Beach, L.A., and Hawaii.
